I subscribe to a feed from a site called AndroidGuys and it gives me news about what’s happening in the android market these days.
The problem is, it seems almost DAILY I’m being told about 2-3-10 more devices coming to the market. That’s great! More power to you! You are activating more Android devices daily than Apple now and Apple probably will never get that market share back again. What…do I see a tear inching it’s way down Steve Job’s face? Nah, just a bug crawling on my monitor….
Anyway let’s do a tally. You have the iPhone 3GS (now discontinued and only selling refurb models), the iPhone 4 (ATT and Verizon flavors) and the talked about iPhone 5 which is speculated to carry a dual chip so one phone could be used on Verizon (cdma) or ATT (GSM). So I count 3 in market and one on the way.
There are that many Android phones on MetroPCS alone!!!
The danger I see in the flooding of the market with Android phones is there is nothing to hang your hat on. How can you possibly distinguish yourself and increase your sales when you are competing against 20 other new Android devices simultaneously? With an iPhone, it’s like it or leave it. With an Android phone it’s, ‘well, let me check those 6 other phones, maybe something will jump out at me’ or worse ‘i’ll just wait 4 more months, there is bound to be better units coming along, they seem to pump one out every .673 seconds.
What do you think? Too many Android devices muddies the water or the more the merrier?
